DJ-League The Show returns with Episode 9 — one hour connecting current Hip-Hop and R&B with Oldschool, Dancehall, music history and an extended DJ mix from London’s DJ Mr. Blue.

This edition moves naturally between generations. Anderson .Paak and Cordae bring new Hip-Hop into the show, kwn represents the current UK R&B movement, while Charlie Wilson and Mary J. Blige add established R&B voices. Later, JAY-Z’s The Blueprint brings Hip-Hop heritage into focus before Beenie Man, Shabba Ranks, Ashanti and 702 carry the final section through Dancehall and back into R&B.

At the center of the hour, DJ Mr. Blue gets more than 18 uninterrupted minutes to take over the show.

Anderson .Paak and Cordae Bring “A Good Day”

Anderson .Paak and Cordae reconnect on “A Good Day,” a September release that combines contemporary Hip-Hop with the unmistakable feel of Bill Withers’ classic “Lovely Day.”

That connection between new music and older influences fits naturally into Episode 9.

The record follows Kalvin Love and D3 The RocStar in the opening section of the show before Charlie Wilson moves the hour further into R&B.

Rather than separating new releases from the music that influenced them, The Show lets both generations sit naturally beside each other.

kwn Makes R&B Chart History

One of the month’s biggest R&B developments comes from the UK.

kwn became the first artist ever to top the Official R&B UK Chart with “good girl.”

The new weekly ranking gives current British R&B its own dedicated chart and combines UK sales and streaming activity.

Inside Episode 9, “good girl” flows directly into Mary J. Blige’s “Tonight,” creating a connection between one of the current names in British R&B and an established voice from another generation.

It is exactly the kind of musical link The Show is built around. 

DJ Mr. Blue Takes Over the Show

The featured DJ for Episode 9 is DJ Mr. Blue from London, United Kingdom.

His musical background connects Hip-Hop, R&B, Oldschool and Dancehall, while his DJ history reaches into long-running UK club culture.

For Episode 9, the DJ feature is not reduced to a short transition.

DJ Mr. Blue takes control at 19:28 and remains uninterrupted until 38:03 — more than 18 minutes of his own mix directly inside the show.

That gives the featured DJ enough space to build a real musical sequence rather than simply appearing as another name in the program.

After his segment, Donnell Jones feat. DJ AP brings the show back into the regular music flow.

The Blueprint Turns 25

JAY-Z released The Blueprint on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, the album remains an important reference point in Hip-Hop history.

Its soul-driven production helped define a major part of the early-2000s sound and brought wider attention to producers including Kanye West and Just Blaze.

Tracks including “Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” “U Don’t Know,” “Heart of the City” and “Song Cry” remain closely associated with the album today.

Episode 9 marks the anniversary with “Izzo (H.O.V.A.).”

From there, Beenie Man feat. Mýa on “Girls Dem Sugar” creates the bridge from Hip-Hop and R&B toward the Caribbean side of the hour.

Shabba Ranks and the Value of Music Ownership

The Dancehall section continues with Shabba Ranks and “Mr. Loverman.”

In September, Shabba Ranks filed a legal action seeking to reclaim publishing rights connected with several compositions from his catalog.

For artists, songwriters and producers, publishing ownership can remain important long after a record first leaves the charts.

No final decision has been made in the case.

Back to R&B for the Final Minutes

After “Mr. Loverman,” Episode 9 deliberately moves back toward the musical center of DJ-League.

Ashanti’s “Rock Wit U (Awww Baby)” provides the transition from Dancehall into R&B before 702’s “Where My Girls At” closes the final musical run.

That sequence captures the overall structure of the episode well.

Hip-Hop and R&B remain the foundation.

Oldschool and Dancehall expand the musical picture without replacing that core identity.
