Rotterdam is preparing for four days of HipHop culture as Breakin’ Convention Rotterdam 2026 brings together DJs, MCs, dancers and community projects from November 12 to 15. The international festival, led by artistic director Jonzi D, will take place across Nieuwe Luxor, Theater Rotterdam and Theater Zuidplein.
The festival’s approach goes beyond performances on traditional stages. Free showcases were also scheduled at Rotterdam Centraal from November 2 to 6, bringing HipHop culture into one of the city’s busiest public spaces ahead of the main event.
DJs and MCs Take Center Stage
On Friday, November 13, the Rhymes programme at Theater Rotterdam will connect underground HipHop with an international lineup featuring O’hene Savánt from the United States, South African rapper Stogie T, British MC Lady Leshurr and Dutch-Ghanaian artist Kay Slice.
Rotterdam‘s DJ Cutnice will open the evening with HipHop selections before the live performances. A Kossa Kossa jam session featuring live musicians will close the concert.
The programme also includes a Pass Da Jazz afterparty at Mavis, featuring DJ Cutnice, DJ Ray Escobar and additional DJs playing classic HipHop.
Breaking, Battles and Community Participation
Saturday, November 14, shifts the focus toward movement at Nieuwe Luxor. International and Dutch performers will present breaking, HipHop dance, waacking and krump, with participating acts including Traplord, ILL-Abilities, Rubix, Mounia and Crime Time.
The programme extends beyond staged performances. A breaking battle organised with Studio Bluebreaks will provide another connection between dancers, DJs and the wider community.
On Sunday, November 15, Theater Zuidplein will host the Community Jam, bringing workshops, battles, open mic opportunities and showcases together. Contributions include workshops involving Stogie T and Mounia, an Open Style battle with Pigeons Crew and an open mic presented by Cult North.
Rotterdam’s HipHop Culture Beyond the Stage
The combination of live music, DJ performances, breaking and community participation reflects how closely connected HipHop‘s different creative disciplines remain.
Rather than treating DJing, MCing and dance as separate activities, Breakin’ Convention places them within a shared cultural programme. Its mix of international performers and Rotterdam-based initiatives also gives local communities a visible role alongside established names.
For Rotterdam, the festival adds another concrete chapter to a HipHop landscape already represented through local artists, DJs and cultural spaces. The city also has an established DJ-League Rotterdam network hub documenting publicly accessible local DJ profiles.
Breakin’ Convention Rotterdam 2026 runs from November 12–15, with activities across three major venues and a programme connecting professional performances with grassroots HipHop culture.
