Vybz Kartel is preparing to close 2026 with another major Dancehall release. The Jamaican artist has announced a new album titled The Sun, scheduled for December 18, with producer Chambah playing a central role in the project.
The announcement extends an already highly active year for Kartel and adds another chapter to his renewed presence in Dancehall following his return to public life.
Vybz Kartel Sets December 18 Release Date
The Sun is scheduled to arrive on December 18, 2026. Kartel revealed the project through social media, only months after releasing God & Time in June.
At this stage, a complete official tracklist and list of featured artists have not been announced.
That leaves much of the album still open, but the involvement of Chambah already gives the project a clearer identity than a conventional collection built around numerous producers.
Chambah Takes a Central Role
One of the most interesting details surrounding The Sun is Kartel’s continued collaboration with producer Chambah.
The project is being presented as a close collaboration between Kartel and Chambah, giving the producer a particularly prominent role in the upcoming album. DancehallMag notes that Chambah has remained close to Kartel creatively since the artist’s release from prison.
The two have already released music together in 2026. September’s “You’re Important” was officially credited to both Vybz Kartel and Chambah, following other recent work between the pair.
For DJs and Dancehall listeners, that producer relationship could become one of the most important elements of the album. A consistent producer can give a full project a recognizable musical direction rather than simply connecting a series of unrelated singles.
Another Major Chapter After God & Time
Kartel released God & Time on June 5, 2026, making The Sun his second newly announced full-length project of the year.
The pace reflects how quickly his career has accelerated since his release in July 2024.
After more than a decade in prison, Kartel returned to the stage with the Freedom Street concert at Jamaica’s National Stadium on December 31, 2024. Since then, new releases, collaborations and live appearances have placed him back at the center of international Dancehall conversation.
Why The Sun Matters for Dancehall
Vybz Kartel remains one of the most recognizable figures in modern Jamaican Dancehall, but the significance of The Sun will ultimately depend on more than his name.
The producer-led structure gives the upcoming album something to prove.
If the Kartel-Chambah partnership develops into a consistent sound across an entire project, The Sun could stand apart from the rapid flow of singles and collaborations surrounding Kartel’s return.
That makes the coming rollout particularly relevant for DJs. Track selection, singles, potential collaborations and the album’s overall sound will determine which records move from a high-profile release into lasting Dancehall rotation.
Jamaica Remains at the Center
Kartel’s return also reinforces Jamaica’s continuing role at the center of global Dancehall culture.
Even as Dancehall connects with audiences, DJs and artists around the world, its Jamaican foundation remains fundamental. Kartel’s renewed international visibility is another example of how music rooted in Jamaica continues to move far beyond the island.
For the DJ-League — a global community dedicated to HipHop, R&B, Oldschool and Dancehall — The Sun is therefore more than another album announcement.
It is a release worth following as one of Dancehall’s most established artists enters another major phase of his career.
Vybz Kartel’s The Sun is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
