Biography
DJ Stikmand is born and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was dj-ing around Copenhagen from around 2000 to around 2010. DJ Stikmand started his collaboration with Brooklyn Radio back in 2012 with The Upper Hand mixtape series. The series contains 10 parts with underground, New York inspired boom bap hip hop as the red line throughout the series. DJ Stikmand decided to end the series with The Upper Hand Part 10 that contains 74 of his all-time favorite tracks in a two-hour non-stop mix. The idea for the name The Upper Hand comes from the outro of the track ‘Revolution’ from the Edo G & Pete Rock album My Own Worst Enemy from 2004, where DJ Revolution superbly cuts up the sentence The Upper Hand. That part serves as the intro on The Upper Hand Part 1. On the Hip Hop Journal DJ Stikmand keeps you up to date with the most important and rugged underground tracks out there. Expect gritty New York boom bap hip hop topped with the best the world of hip hop music has to offer. The Hip Hop Journal Episode 1 dropped back in 2014 and the show is now 70 episodes deep. In 2015 The Hip Hop Journal received the award for Best Hip Hop/R&B Radio Show 2015 on Mixcloud. The One Hundred show with DJ Stikmand started back in 2013 with the release of 100% Redman. The show is dedicated to showcase one artist throughout an entire mix. The mixes are between 60 and 120 min depending on the catalogue of the artist. The variety of artist range from producers like DJ Premier, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Marco Polo, and Apollo Brown, to Method Man, O.C., M.O.P, Masta Ace, Dilated Peoples and Defari, as well as international acts like IAM and Looptroop. Further to the artist mix, you can also find a few mixes dedicated to Funk and RnB in this show.
