Texas has earned a well-deserved place in the history of HipHop and R&B. While every region has developed its own identity, the state has consistently produced influential artists, pioneering DJs and cultural movements that have reached audiences far beyond its borders.
Houston occupies a special place within that history. It became the birthplace of DJ Screw’s groundbreaking chopped and screwed style and was home to legendary names such as the Geto Boys, Scarface and Rap-A-Lot Records. Their work helped establish Houston as one of the defining cities in Southern HipHop. Beyond Houston, Port Arthur became internationally recognised through UGK, while Dallas is closely associated with acclaimed artist Erykah Badu. Texas has also produced globally successful artists including Beyoncé, Megan Thee Stallion, Travis Scott, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Chamillionaire and Maxo Kream.
Yet Texas is about much more than famous names. Across the state, local DJs, promoters, venues, radio personalities and music supporters continue to build strong communities centred around HipHop, R&B, Oldschool and Dancehall. Every city contributes its own character while sharing a common appreciation for authentic music culture and community.
At the DJ-League, we believe these local communities deserve to be visible. Our Texas Cluster Page brings together publicly listed DJ profiles, making it easier to discover DJs, explore local scenes and strengthen connections across the state and beyond.
