Bruno Mars has reached another major milestone in R&B history. His single “I Just Might” has spent 31 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, matching the all-time record held by Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther.”

The achievement, confirmed on Billboard’s chart dated October 10, 2026, places both songs at the top of a ranking whose history stretches back to 1958.

Released on January 9, 2026, “I Just Might” became one of the year’s most successful R&B releases. The track first topped the Hot R&B/HipHop Songs chart dated January 24 and has continued to dominate throughout much of the year.

According to Billboard and Luminate, the song generated 5.3 million official US streams, 51.9 million radio airplay audience impressions and approximately 1,000 US song sales during the tracking period from September 25 to October 1.

Its 31 weeks at No. 1 were not consecutive. Drake’s “Janice STFU” temporarily interrupted its run, spending seven weeks at the top.

Before Mars reached this milestone, Kendrick Lamar and SZA held the record with “Luther,” which accumulated 31 weeks at No. 1 across 2024 and 2025.

The previous benchmark had been set by Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which achieved 22 weeks at the summit.

The current ranking of record-setting songs reflects different generations and styles within contemporary R&B and HipHop, with both solo artists and collaborations shaping the history of the chart.

“I Just Might” is the lead single from Mars’ fourth studio album, The Romantic, released on February 27, 2026.

The track also became his tenth No. 1 single on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 and his fifth No. 1 on the Hot R&B/HipHop Songs chart.

Previous leaders on the latter ranking include “That’s What I Like,” “Finesse” with Cardi B, “Please Me” with Cardi B, and Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open” with Anderson .Paak.

The achievement illustrates the lasting commercial influence of R&B within today’s music industry.

Beyond individual streaming numbers, the record reflects the continued importance of radio airplay, digital listening and audience engagement in determining chart performance.

For DJs and radio stations working across HipHop and R&B, the milestone is another example of how established artists can remain prominent alongside newer releases in an increasingly competitive music environment.

The DJ-League connects DJs, artists and radio stations worldwide through a shared focus on HipHop and R&B culture.

Whether “I Just Might” will eventually claim the record outright depends on its performance in subsequent chart editions. As of the October 10 chart, Mars shares the historic mark with Kendrick Lamar and SZA.
