Fee the Evolutionist releases “Back in the Dayz,” a soulful feel-good record produced by the legendary Ski Beatz, featuring Professor Lyrical (Lord Plourde of X-Caliber/Lyrical of Invasion/Pro of ProQuo) and soul songstress Ruby Shabazz. Lyrical, Ruby, and Fee (along with in-house producer/rapper Dale “Syntax” Chase. “Back in the Dayz” is a classic Ski Beatz production and its creation serves as a tribute record commemorating the 25th anniversary of, arguably, the greatest album in hip hop history—Reasonable Doubt by Jay-Z. Ski produced four standout tracks on the album while simultaneously producing Fee & “Lyrical” Lord Plourde of X-Caliber, before, during, and after sessions with Jay-Z (as well as Camp Lo and many others affiliated with Ski’s Roc-A-Blok brand and the affiliated Roc-A-Fella) at his Uptown home studio and at legendary D&D Studios. Under Ski’s mentorship, X-Cal would develop its own Ski-inspired sound, which permeated across Roc-A-Blok affiliated artists, helping X-Cal land multiple records on national playlists and charts, cementing them as a fixture of Boston area Hip Hop history and folklore. 2022 represents the 25th anniversary since the members of X-Cal recorded and released their underground classic vinyl, “Butta Messenga,” and marks the first time in many years that they have reunited to record and publish a major single release—Back in the Dayz—SUMMER 2023 going for radio adds.
