The Paid In Full Foundation is preparing to honor some of HipHop‘s most influential pioneers at its fourth annual HipHop Grandmaster Awards on October 24, 2026. The ceremony will take place at the Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, recognizing artists and cultural contributors whose work helped shape the music and the industry surrounding it.
Kurtis Blow and The D.O.C. have been named this year’s Grandmaster honorees. Nile Rodgers will receive the Quincy Jones Achievement Award, while Ralph McDaniels will be recognized with the Contributor Award.
Honoring Different Foundations of HipHop
Kurtis Blow helped bring recorded rap to a wider audience during HipHop‘s early commercial development. His breakthrough recordings, including “The Breaks,” remain part of the history that connects the culture’s first generations with today’s artists and DJs.
The D.O.C. represents another major chapter. Known for his lyricism and songwriting, his contributions to the development of West Coast HipHop extended beyond his own recordings and helped shape influential projects associated with Dr. Dre and N.W.A.
Nile Rodgers brings a different musical foundation to the ceremony. His work with Chic, including “Good Times,” has influenced generations of musicians and helped establish rhythmic ideas that became central to early recorded HipHop.
Ralph McDaniels is being recognized for his contribution to music television and cultural documentation. Through Video Music Box, he helped introduce HipHop performances, music videos and artists to audiences when mainstream coverage of the genre was still limited.
Recognition Beyond the Stage
The Paid In Full Foundation’s mission reaches beyond ceremonial recognition. The organization aims to support influential music creators whose financial rewards have not always reflected their cultural contributions.
According to the foundation, net proceeds from the awards support its efforts to empower HipHop pioneers and other creative professionals.
This gives the October 24 event a broader significance: it connects the preservation of musical history with the practical question of how the people who built that history are supported.
Why This Matters to DJ Culture
For DJs, HipHop heritage remains a living part of music culture. Classic recordings continue to reach new audiences through radio, clubs, mixtapes and contemporary DJ sets.
The upcoming Grandmaster Awards recognize several of the artists and cultural figures who helped establish that foundation. Their influence continues to extend across generations, from early recorded rap and West Coast production to music television and the preservation of HipHop history.
The ceremony is scheduled for October 24 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
