Chaka Khan Returns With ‘Chakzilla,’ Her First New Album in Seven Years

Chaka Khan has released Chakzilla, her first full-length album since 2019’s Hello Happiness. The 10-track project arrived on September 18 and brings one of R&B’s most recognizable voices together with Sia, Snoop Dogg and Lenny Kravitz.

Rather than building the release around nostalgia alone, Chakzilla places Khan inside a contemporary pop and dance setting while keeping the rhythm, soul and crossover instincts that have followed her music across generations.

A Seven-Year Return With New Collaborations

Chakzilla runs for 33 minutes and arrives through EarthSong Records under exclusive license to BMG Rights Management (UK) Limited.

The guest appearances give the album an unusually wide musical reach. Sia joins Khan on “Cool U Down,” Snoop Dogg contributes to “Boogie’s in My Soul,” while Lenny Kravitz appears on “Bring the Party.”

Those collaborations also connect naturally with different parts of Khan’s musical history.

Her catalogue has long moved between R&B, Soul, Funk, Pop and dance music. HipHop has also been part of that crossover story for decades. Her 1984 recording “I Feel for You” featured Grandmaster Melle Mel, creating an early and highly visible connection between Rap and mainstream R&B and Pop.

Snoop Dogg’s appearance on Chakzilla therefore continues Khan’s long-standing connection with HipHop, a relationship that reaches back to Grandmaster Melle Mel’s landmark contribution to ‘I Feel for You’ in 1984.
