Fee the Evolutionist and Dumi Right Connect HipHop Generations on “Break It Down”

More than three decades after first crossing paths, Fee the Evolutionist and Dumi Right have joined forces on “Break It Down,” a new HipHop single featuring DJ Myth.

The collaboration connects two artists with deep roots in the culture while keeping the focus on what they are creating today.

More Than Three Decades of HipHop Connection

Fee and Dumi first crossed paths in New York City during the 1993 New Music Seminar era.

From there, their careers developed along different routes. Dumi Right became known internationally through pioneering African HipHop group Zimbabwe Legit. Fee built his own history through New England HipHop and X-Caliber before continuing his work as Fee the Evolutionist.

Today, Fee is also part of the global DJ-League artist network.

“Break It Down” brings those different paths together on one record. Instead of relying purely on nostalgia, both MCs use their experience to reflect a culture they have remained connected to for decades.

Boom Bap Meets Turntablism

The production comes from Nashua-based Byron G, who gives the track a boom-bap foundation built to leave space for the lyrics.

DJ Myth completes the combination with turntable scratches — an important detail for a record rooted in HipHop tradition and particularly relevant to a DJ audience.

That balance gives “Break It Down” its character. It draws from classic HipHop without simply trying to recreate another era.

Keeping the Culture Moving

That is ultimately what makes this collaboration interesting.

Dumi Right connects the record to the international legacy of Zimbabwe Legit. Fee represents another long-running path through HipHop while continuing to release new music and contribute to the DJ-League network.
