Born in the “Windy” city of Chicago, IL, Bozz Lay’Dee father gave her the name April Poree. She felt it to be somewhat humorous given the fact that her mother wanted to name her, “Jazzy.”Bozz Lay’ Dee’s unique style is the result of a lifetime of musical influence. Growing up in a talented musical family meant that she was always surrounded by different forms of music.
While her father was a DJ for Chicago’s local entertainment establishments; he exposed her to a wealth of music as a child, all of which influenced her musical development.
In the early 90’s she joined a dance group and later formed an R&B group that allowed her to experience performing at a variety of venues. This also gave her the opportunity to explore writing her own music, develop choreography, as well as getting a feel for what type of music she wanted to pursue.
As it turns out, she found that the energy she brings when rapping tells a story in a way that her singing, or dancing could not have reached. She has always felt Queen Latifah broke ground for women like her when she came out with her song “U-N-I-T-Y.” For Bozz Lay’Dee, rap can be sexy, informative, and empowering.
Through her unique music she has taken over the airways with her hot “FEMALE” hit single, “I Do What I Want.” Bozz Lay’Dee now has her “Bozz” Anthem featured on Lizzo series, “Watch Out for the Big Grrrls” Episode 3, along with many blogs, radio plays and a billboard in Time Square, NY.
